Junction®

The Junction app

Junction app: scan a product, check it’s real, own it

Free on iOS and Android. One scan tells you whether the thing in your hands is genuine, who owns it, and what it is made of.

Junction is the free mobile app from Junction® (dojunction.online), for iOS and Android. It reads the JCode™ a brand puts on a physical product, either a QR code or an NFC tag, and answers two questions about that one item: is it genuine, and whose is it. The same code opens the product’s EU digital product passport (DPP).

  • It is not the Junction hackathon and community platform at junction.fi.
  • It is not the Junction health-data API for developers.
  • It is not a crypto wallet: it holds no coins, no tokens and no keys you can lose.

What the app does

Scan and know

Point the camera at a QR code, or tap an NFC tag. One scan, one answer.

Check it is genuine

A JCode™ belongs to a single item, not to a product line, so a copied code shows up as a copy.

Prove and transfer ownership

Claim what you bought, and hand it over to the next owner when you sell it or give it away.

Open the product passport

Materials, care, repair and recycling data, served from the same code the brand printed.

Find out about a recall

When a brand blocks or recalls one item, the next scan of that item says so.

Works without a signal

Verification runs offline, so it still works in a shop basement or at a market stall.

What a scan can say

Five answers, one code

The same JCode™ reports a different state depending on where the product is in its life.

On the shelf

Not sold yet. The consumer checks it is real before paying.

Claimed

It has an owner and the brand knows who. Warranty, service and a direct channel switch on.

Wrong hands

Someone else’s product: stolen or grey market, flagged the moment it is scanned.

Blocked

Recalled or stopped by the brand, immediately, one item at a time.

Open record

The digital product passport (DPP), served from the same code.

How it works

How it works

  1. 01

    Install the app

Free on the App Store and on Google Play.

  2. 02

    Find the code

A JCode™ is a QR code printed on the product, its tag or its box, or an NFC tag you tap.

  3. 03

    Scan it

Junction resolves that one item and shows its current state.

  4. 04

Claim it, if it is yours

Claiming links the item to you, so a later scan can prove it and you can pass it on.

The app asks for the camera, to scan a code, and NFC, to read a tag. Location and notifications are optional.

Safety and privacy

Is the Junction app safe?

Yes. Here is exactly what it asks of your phone, and what it does not do.

Two permissions to scan, two you can refuse

Camera to read a QR code, NFC to read a tag. Location and notifications are optional. Location is read only at the moment you scan, activate an item, send feedback or report something lost, never in the background, so the app cannot follow your movements.

No wallet, no blockchain

Ownership is a record Junction keeps for you. There is no token to custody, no seed phrase, and nothing to lose with a lost phone.

Checking needs no account

Scanning a product and seeing whether it is genuine works without signing up. An account is only needed to claim ownership of an item.

A named publisher, and a published patent

Junction® is published from Italy at dojunction.online. The method behind its codes is covered by Italian patent IT 102020000019723, granted in November 2022: a valid code cannot be worked out from any other.

Questions people ask

Is the Junction app free?

Yes. The app is free to download on the App Store and on Google Play, and checking whether a product is genuine needs no account.

Is the Junction app safe to use?

Scanning needs two permissions: the camera, to read a QR code, and NFC, to read a tag. Location and notifications are optional and you can refuse both. Location is read only at the moment of a scan, an activation, a feedback message or a lost-item report, and it is what lets the app tell a brand where a report came from and warn you when a product is not authorised for sale in your region. It is never read in the background. Junction is not a crypto wallet and holds no coins, tokens or keys. The app privacy notice at dojunction.online/app-privacy sets out what data is processed.

What is the Junction app for?

Checking that a physical product is genuine, proving and transferring ownership of it, and opening its EU digital product passport (DPP), all from one code the brand puts on the item.

Is Junction related to the Junction hackathon?

No. Junction® at dojunction.online is a product-authentication and digital-product-passport app for iOS and Android. The Junction hackathon at junction.fi is an unrelated organisation that shares the name.

Which phones does the Junction app work on?

iOS and Android. Scanning a QR code works with any phone camera; tapping an NFC tag needs a phone with NFC hardware.

Do I need an account to scan a product?

No. Scanning and checking authenticity work without signing up. An account is needed only when you want to claim ownership of an item or transfer it to someone else.

The platform behind the app

The app is the consumer half. The other half is the platform brands use to issue JCodes™, serve a digital product passport, and reach the people actually holding their products.
