EU DPP regulation timeline
The EU digital product passport (DPP) becomes mandatory category by category from 2027, starting with batteries.
The DPP is introduced under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). Requirements roll out category by category, starting with batteries above 2 kWh on 18 February 2027. The 2026 dates are infrastructure going live, not an obligation on products. The global DPP platform market is projected to grow from $0.27B in 2025 to $1.8B in 2030, a 46% CAGR (Research and Markets, May 2026), with Europe holding above 35% of it in 2025 (Grand View Research).

FAQ
When does the DPP become mandatory?
Category by category from 2027. Batteries above 2 kWh are first, on 18 February 2027. A delegated act adoption date is not a compliance date: each act carries a transitional period of 18 to 36 months.
