Plain-language definitions for the digital product passport and product-authentication world.
Digital product passport (DPP)
A structured digital record of a product’s identity, materials and lifecycle data, linked via QR or NFC and required by EU regulation.
JCode™
A unique, cryptographically managed per-item code (QR or NFC) that resolves to a product’s digital identity in Junction.
Ownership transfer
A verified person-to-person handover of a product’s ownership, recorded in an immutable HMAC-signed chain.
IEC 61406
A standard defining the structured QR identification link between a physical product and its digital passport.
GLN
A Global Location Number identifying a facility or legal entity, captured for DPP operator identification.
EORI
An Economic Operator Registration and Identification number identifying operators in EU customs.
Aggregator
A batch grouping of codes (a lot) that share an order and enrichment session.
Whitelist
Cryptographically signed, immutable metadata entries bound to a code, readable and writable by authorized partners.
Enrichment
The process of filling blank codes with multilingual product metadata before they reach consumers.
Reactivation
Re-enabling an activated or blocked code so it can be scanned again, for resale or returns.
Scan state
The single state a scanned product resolves to: on the shelf, claimed, wrong hands, blocked, or the open record.
Open record
The digital product passport (DPP) data served from the same code that proves the product is genuine.
Certificate of authenticity
The proof, produced by a genuine scan, that a physical item is authentic at the point of purchase.
Chain of custody
The immutable, timestamped record of who has owned a product and when.
